EXAMPLE OF USE : Scheduling

A supplier of a car manufacturer had - among other things - to provide evidence that he's able to compute, simulate, and optimize (with respect to predefined criteria) the scheduling of the capacities of the customer's production lines.

Problem Domain:

• Simulation, Operations Research & Combinatorial Optimization

Required:

• Clearing of the relevant scheduling data.
• Development of different methods for scheduling, simulation and optimization with respect to the resource and capacity planning of the product lines.
• Development of an analysis and design model for the system to be implemented.

SOLUTION:

• LEDA's data types and algorithms proved the feasibility of the problem as well as the cost savings compared to the current method. In a very short time a prototype has been created, that - heavily relying on LEDA - demonstrated the superior capabilities of our design and optimization technique.

RESULTS:

• The results of the project exceeded the expectations of the car manufacturer. The supplier received the order in question.
